Spotify is currently doing a major Housekeeping, this year and certain artists are loosing followers. Artists that buy followers might be the most at risk because they’ll observe a massive drop in their followers counts. Indeed, it’s true that having a decent amount of following gives you a certain notoriety in the eyes of other internet users and fans. People are more likely to stream your music, because they’ll be wondering why you’re getting so much love. Unfortunately, if the music doesn’t match the count — by that, I mean if the sound isn’t catchy or properly sound-engineered — then it’s a waste of time and money, because there won’t be any retention. Your followers count will drop and it could be a huge « L » for your career.

Personally, I would recommend any artist that feels the need to be relevant to start from scratch and build a genuine fanbase. It might be true that it takes times, focus and a lot of investments but trust me, it’s definitely worth it. Here are few advices I can give artists looking to be relevant and successful — You don’t need to read a whole book to understand these things.

1 - Invest and Build Your Fanbase.

Instead of buying fake streams and followers, send your music to blogs and playlists curators — And we’re here to help you with that.

The music industry is a competitive field, especially these days. And people need to understand that making music cost a lot of money and time because it’s a business. I’ve noticed that some artists just release music without even setting up a marketing plan for it — How do you want your music to thrive if you don’t even give it a chance to?

I mean if you think that people will just go and look up your name on internet to find your music, then you’re amazingly wrong. There are too many artists out there, which means too many music out there. And most music even have the same titles, the same samples, the same beats, the same type of lyrics/story and sometimes the same melodies. So tell me, how would you stand out if your music is clouded by all of those aspects?

Well, let me tell you how… INVEST! Instead of putting money on new clothes, new chains, new whatever… Use your money to:

  • Hire a great producer (With a unique and catchy sound),

  • Hire a great sound engineer to craft your music

  • Invest in your music marketing to build your fanbase, by working with publicists.

Then you’ll get enough money later to buy your new ‘whatevers

2 - Be Creative and Stand Out.

Like I said above, most music have the same titles, beats, melodies and stories.. Be creative! Don’t hide yourself behind a persona, Be You!

Create something that makes you, You! And inject in it, some substance of creativity.

Indeed, by « inject some substance of creativity », I mean try new sounds, weird sounds, new things — musically speaking, of course. Don’t be afraid to be bold and innovative or you’ll just sound like any other singer, rapper or producer out there. Show the world that you’re special, and if the world doesn’t see it, then you’re not and it’s okay! I’m saying this, because the audience gets tired of hearing the same thing over and over again. So offer them something different and they’ll be interested — even though whatever you’re offering isn’t the best (for instance, Kodak Black, Young Thug, IceJJFish… 🤫 ). — Anyway, Be Younique!

3 - Collaborates With Other Artists.

Collaboration is so important in music. It’s actually one of the main sources of success in business or life, in general. You need to team up with other players to make it Big — For instance, families are stronger when Mom and Dad works together.

Indeed, what happens when you collaborate with another artist, is that, not only you get noticed by that artist’s audience and reciprocally, but also your music sounds more versatile (because there’s another flow merged to it). So collaborate!

4 - Make Friends Among Music Curators.

Friends are there to help you and comfort you, at any moment — In music too! Be friends with bloggers, playlists curators because they’re human too and they need appreciation. Don’t just send them your music and expect them to share it, because you think it’s their job..?! Who the f**** are you, mate?

Instead, follow them on socials, like, share and comment their posts. Talk to them like you want to be friends with them.

Then they’ll notice you, appreciate you and when you send your music, it’s going to be hard for them to decline it (because you’re a friend) — And even though, they decline your music, they’ll give advices on how to better your sound to fit their platform. (If they don’t, then they’re droids, lol)

In a word, think of the music curators, like you think of your friends (also, don’t fake it too hard, be genuine!)

5 - Don’t be afraid to fail. FAIL, and try again!

All right, I get it! You think that I’ve heard that phrase in movies or speeches or blah blah blah… But this is true and I lived it!

Indeed, when you fail, you gain a great experience and when you fail again, you gain a tremendous experience and the process keeps on going until you get the ‘right’ experience to make it. Failure is the first key to success.

So if you’re put an enormous amount of money in your music and still don’t get the results you want, maybe it’s because the sound isn’t there yet. So try another sound (but remain genuine) and promote it again. — Always try new things.

For example, let’s say you send us your song to put on playlists. And we do so! Then on Spotify for artists, you’re seeing that your music is being streamed but there’re few saves and followers gained. This only means that the audience didn’t connect enough with your music (melodies weren’t catchy enough, or vocals weren’t their type, or your music is just too cliche) to save it or follow you, but at least they have streamed it and they know your music exists. Thus try a different musical approach and see how it goes — Again Music is a business and you always have to be innovative to thrive. Never give up until you’re certain that it isn’t your path.
